  • Welcome

Thank you for stopping by. This is my website. I’ve had it a long time, but it’s not always been visible. I decided recently to restart it a bit, mainly to offer three parts: work (my editing company), Antarctica (2003-2007, plus some news), and random thoughts. You will find these sections at the links above or via the pages.

As I write, I am reminded of the early days of the internet (IRC, for those who remember), and the promise of it all. These days, with AI set to pollute the planet into near extinction, that time of the early internet feels as if it were another era like the Stone Age. It was a better time (isn’t it always), mostly because the goons and venture capitalists hadn’t discovered it, or at least figured out how to muck it up. Early Facebook (MySpace for some) was extremely convenient, especially for those of us who were prone to move often or wander this world. It let us keep updated on family, friends, work, and acquaintances, with a tidbit of fun and news. Now it’s just incessant ads, spam posts, politics of disinformation (on a good day) and clirkbait or ragebait. Most of us early adopters were also early to abandon it. My FB friends’ posts are literally from years or even a decade ago. I have no idea what they’re up to. Many of them won’t even connect via Messenger or other apps. I don’t use them much either. Am I too old? Probably but also it’s neither convenient nor fun. So instead (rant over, maybe), I’m just going to return to the tried and true, my own website with my stuff like I like it.

    Enjoy,

    Brien
